Description:

This journey to the forbidden city of Lhasa is one that few people will ever make. Tibet is wild and barren and not the most comfortable of destinations yet your first sight of the great Potala Place, the winter home of the Dalai Lama will be a breathtaking reward. From Kathmandu you fly across the Himalayan Range and the massive Tibetan plateau to Lhasa. Your first day is relaxed as your body attunes to the rarefied air in this city which lies 3683m above sea level. Two days are then spent visiting the Potala and Norbulingka Palaces, famed monasteries of Fanden and Drepung, revered and sacred Buddhist shrines, Jokhan Temple. A walk around the Garkhor (market of old Lhasa) is a shopper`s delight. An added bonus of this tour is a journey out of Lhasa to remote and beautiful Namtso Lake. This region is a world renowned bird sanctuary and the site of numerous caves where Buddhist monks and nuns retreat for meditation. A couple of days is then spent visiting the old fortress town on Gyantse and on to Shigatse, home of the Panchan Lama before flying back to Kathmandu.
